Overview
Universidade FUPAC refers to the Fundação Presidente Antônio Carlos (FUPAC) network, which originated in Barbacena, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 1963, when a bill by deputy and professor Bonifácio Andrada created the Fundação Universitária da Mantiqueira; it was renamed Fundação Presidente Antônio Carlos in 1965. Its first two faculties (Philosophy, and Economic/Accounting/Administrative Sciences) opened in Barbacena in 1966, followed by a Faculty of Medicine in 1971.
The network expanded to Ubá (1970), Visconde do Rio Branco (1975), Leopoldina (1991), Ipatinga (1993) and Juiz de Fora (1996). After 31 years of activity, in 1997 FUPAC’s faculties were transformed into Universidade Presidente Antônio Carlos (UNIPAC) under MEC Ordinance No. 366 of 12 March 1997.
