Overview
Taiyuan University is a public comprehensive university in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province, China. It was formed in December 2002 through the merger of the original Taiyuan University, Taiyuan Normal School, and Taiyuan Institute of Education. In April 2013 it was upgraded, with Ministry of Education approval, to a full-time comprehensive undergraduate university under its current name.
Its lineage traces further back to normal (teacher-training) schools founded in 1905, 1910 and 1919. The university now comprises eight faculties — Engineering, Science, Literature, Economics, Management, Art, Agriculture and Education — with 37 undergraduate majors.
