St Petersburg University (SPbU) is a public research university in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and one of the country’s oldest institutions of higher education.

History

The university traces its foundation to the decree issued by Peter the Great in 1724 establishing the Academy of Sciences, a university and a gymnasium in St Petersburg.
