Overview
Nantong Teachers College is a public teacher-training institution in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, China. Its predecessor, Tongzhou Minli Normal College, was founded in 1902 by the prominent Chinese industrialist Zhang Jian — one of the three major origins of teacher education in China and the country’s first independently established normal school. It became a public institution in 1953 as Jiangsu Province Nantong Normal School, merged with Nantong Women’s Normal School (est. 1905) in 1958, with Nantong Education College in 1999, and with Haimen Normal School in 2005 to form Nantong Higher Normal School.
The institution was upgraded to Nantong Teachers College in 2014 and later merged with Rugao Higher Normal School to form the current institution.
