Overview
The Institute of Practical Oriental Studies (IPOS) is the historical foundation of the Oriental Studies faculty of Moscow International Academy (MMA). The current IPOS website presents the unit as an active faculty in Moscow with a specialist focus on Asian and African studies.
History
The institute was founded in 1993 on the initiative of the Academic Council of the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University. The present faculty of Moscow International Academy was created on the basis of that institute.
Programs
The current faculty’s core field is Oriental and African Studies. Its curriculum combines intensive language study with the history, culture, religion, ethnography, economy and political systems of the countries and regions studied.
Tuition and Admission
Current admissions are handled through the IPOS/Moscow International Academy framework rather than as a separate legacy institution. Applicants should use the current faculty admissions pages for entry requirements, available languages, study format and tuition. No historical flat fee is carried forward as a 2026 tuition figure.
Current Status

Former independent institute; its academic activity continues as the Faculty of Practical Oriental Studies of Moscow International Academy.
