Buryat State University named after Dorzhi Banzarov (BSU) is a public university in Ulan-Ude, Russia. The university’s official information states that more than 8,000 students study across 174 fields and specialties.
History
The university was formally established in 1995, while its academic roots go back to the Buryat-Mongolian State Pedagogical Institute founded in 1932. This history links the modern university with one of the oldest higher-education traditions in the Republic of Buryatia.

Current academic units cover humanities, natural sciences, history and philology, mathematics and computer science, pedagogy and psychology, and Oriental studies, among other areas.
