Doshisha University or 同志社大学 ( DU ) — private higher education institution in Japan. DU began its activity in 1875. The university campus is of urban type and is located in the vicinity of Kyoto.

Doshisha University is classified as a large university with more than 28,000 concurrent students. The university accepts both local and foreign students. The ratio of foreign students at DU is 2% of all students. The academic staff includes more than 1300 teachers and professors. Doshisha University was founded in 1875 by Joseph Hardy Neesima (Jo Niijima), who became one of the six great educators of the Meiji era. The three educational principles of Liberalism, Internationalism, and Christian Principles have been passed on to us since its foundation, and students are encouraged to nurture a sense of freedom, independence, and conscience. Doshisha offers graduate programs in various fields of study, providing many research opportunities. The university has respected graduate schools in Theology, Letters, Social Studies, Law, Economics, Commerce, Policy and Management, Culture and Information Science, Science and Engineering, Life and Medical Sciences, Health and Sports Science, Psychology, Global Studies, and Brain Science. In addition, there are two professional graduate schools in Law and Business. Furthermore, the programs of Graduate School of Global Studies, Doshisha Business School, and International Science and Technology Course (ISTC, a program offered by Graduate School of Science and Engineering + Graduate School of Life and Medical Sciences) are taught entirely in English. Located in the ancient capital of Kyoto, Doshisha University is home for over 2,400 graduate and professional graduate students. Doshisha continues to develop as an international hub of higher education and research.

The university has faculties in Theology, Letters, Social Studies, Law, Economics, Commerce, Policy Studies, Culture and Information Science, Science and Engineering, Life and Medical Sciences, Health and Sports Science, Psychology, and Global Communications. In April 2013, the Faculty of Global and Regional Studies has just been launched. Furthermore, The Institute of the Liberal Arts, an undergraduate program taught entirely in English, was established in April 2011, attracting students from all over the world. Located in the ancient capital of Kyoto, Doshisha University is home for over 26,000 undergraduate students. Doshisha continues to develop as an international hub of higher education and research.
